Love and Decay Volume One eBook Rachel Higginson

'm writing this after I've finished all 3 seasons. More like devoured. It was like a Netflix binge as another reviewer said.

This series follows Reagan a young girl who faces the aftermath of a zombie apocalypse. She and her best friend are trying to survive and make it to South America where she heard from a distant cousin before the zombie breakout that it was safe there in the mountains. Along the way Reagan and her bff, Haley, meet and make both friends and enemies whom are all trying to survive and restore America to life. In the mist of the apocalypse, Reagan learns that life still goes on, she learns to love, fight, and hope. Can Reagan and her friends survive and find a cure?

This is my first zombie read and I had no idea what I was getting myself into. A fellow book club member mentioned it so I read the blurb and thought I'd give it a try since the first volume was free. Boy, was I in for a ride. It was like watching the Walking Dead with a bit of romance thrown in there. Those of you who are not into romance books, trust me, there is plenty of everything else going on. Each episode did not disappoint. I devoured all 3 seasons in less than a week. I was reading up til 7am on some days. I just had to find out what would happen. I lost count how many times I yelled out loud "Oh shoot" "Omg!!!" "WTFUdge??!!?" "oh no!!!!". Lol. I also bawled my eyes out a few times especially towards the end. I was on the edge of my seat the whole 3 season. I wasn't sure who was going to die or what would happen. At times I wanted to slap someone or throw my kindle against the wall. I have to say Rachel Higginson is an awesome story weaver. I was so sucked in, I lost track of reality for awhile. Now I'm stuck in a hangover at the end of season 3. I might start Revolution once I get over my Reagan hangover.

Reagan - she's our heroine and boy does she kick butt. She's a freaking zombie killer machine. She was bad @$$ from the beginning. If a zombie apocalypse was to happen, I'd want to be like her - kicking zombie @$$ with my bff. She did infuriate me at times with her indecision but then I have to remind myself that she was only 20 and she was thrown into the chaos when she was only 18 - fresh out of high school. She didn't have time to make mistakes as any girl her age would have and learn. She did make many mistakes along the way, but she also learned from them and grew stronger. I admired her courage and bravery. I loved her optimism and perseverance. She tried to see the good in everyone and sometimes, it didn't pan out so well but that's just who she is. I can't imagine being in her shoes and keeping my sanity. Chaos and war follows this girl and man, was it a freaken adventure following her through 3 seasons.

And with Reagan, you get all the side characters, her bff Haley. The parkers (Vaughn, Hendrix, King, Harrison, Nelson & Page), Tyler, Miller and Kane. I loved each and everyone one of them (some more than others). Team Hendrix all the way!! Reagan has a few love interests in the book (Vaughn, Hendrix and Kane) but I've always been Team Hendrix. He was always her knight in shining armor.

Rachel Higginson broke my heart and put it all together throughout the series. She is def my new favorite author after this series. Thank you for writing such an amazing read. You made me cry, laugh, yell and hope.

Love and Decay Volume One eBook Rachel Higginson Reviews

I had already fallen in love with Rachel Higginson, by reading her adult romance. When I saw that she had a zombie series out as well, I jumped on it immediately! First, I love all things zombies. (Except The Walking Dead T.V. series—go figure.) The start of the outbreak was a slight twist on an already used plot, but it was done cleverly, and with the perfect opportunity for snark and a little fun, so I didn't mind.

You're thrown into the world of Reagan and Haley, who are just so easy to relate to! From shooting zombies to snagging pretty undies when they get the chance. They understand the rarity of a well fitting pair of shoes, but then don't hesitate to snag some new eyeliner when it comes their way. Two young adults who have taken the life that has been forced on them, adapted, and to some extent, thrived under pressure. They fight their own battles and royally kick ass in the process.

When the girls run in to the Parker family, life just gets even more complicated. Here we have every girl's dream. Strong, sexy, kind brothers, who would move heaven and earth to protect those they love, and who are fiercely devoted to their little sister. Obviously, romance begins to blossom, but that is not the key plot in this story of survival, and I appreciated that. A slight triangle is handled maturely and realistically, without all the angst that so many writers like to throw in. Survival is the main focus, as it should be. There are plenty of slow burn, tense moments, but nothing gratuitous and that keeps a little innocence in a very impure world.

I devoured this book, and because I couldn't possibly get enough, I jumped immediately into Volume Two. Yes, that's right. The best part of this series for me is that it goes on and on. I hate leaving characters, and there is nothing I like better than to stay with them book after book, especially when it's as well written as this one. - GMB
In the world of entertainment, I like television, but I will ALWAYS choose reading a book first. This set of serials gives me the best of both worlds. Each episode is action packed, full of humour, drama, and that touch of romance (or sexual tension). Honestly, they are so good and addicting, I just love the rollercoaster ride each episode takes you on. Reagan is a fabulous protagonist -- spunky, sassy, strong. And the rest of the cast of characters just round things out nicely -- each bringing something a bit different to the eclectic group. Reading through this volume 1 was actually my second time through each of these 6 episodes, and it was nice not to have to wait between each one (since they are so addicting). I also ended up enjoying the Haley episode in the middle MORE the second time through. The first time through I missed Reagan, but having all the episodes in one volume, I knew I would be getting more Reagan later, so it was nice to have a glimpse into Haley's head, and into her own relationship.

If you have a problem with patience (like me), then I highly recommend waiting for these volumes. I LOVE the episodic nature of this series, but at the same time I prefer the Netflix-like binging that I get from reading 6 episodes in a row without waiting. Can't WAIT to see where it goes!!
